The Sage Sun

Calm the Storm

In the midst of all the craziness at school I have felt the need to relax and rejuvenate myself by disconnecting from school for a bit at the end of the night right before I go to sleep.

So far I have found that Bed Time Tea by Yogi is a great natural calming tea. This tea has a smooth flavor that is sweet when it hits your palate, then right before you swallow a subtle hint of spice perks up. The tea has Organic Valerian and Chamomile, both known to soothe nerves naturally. This tea is great around 15 minutes before bed, just don’t forget to pee right before you nod off!

Another amazing way to relax is doing a bit of bedtime yoga. A few nights ago I dimmed my lights, lit a candle, and unrolled my yoga mat right before bed. A friend recently told me about a Yogi on YouTube named Adriene. She has a soothing voice and some amazing routines for about every emotion a human can go through in a day. I really enjoyed her Bedtime Yoga sequence that lasts around 30 minutes. Something about dimming the lights and focusing the body on unwinding unifies the mind and body in a common goal of restorative sleep. Yoga is a great habit to get into before bed as it relaxes any muscles you may have fired up during the day in a workout.

My ultimate go to for relaxation has to be reading. I find it very hard to find time to read books that are not for a class, but reading has always been a love of mine. It can be difficult at first to dismiss the thoughts of guilt as you spend your time reading a fun book instead of a textbook, but once you push that out of your mind your golden. My mom and I have been on the hunt for the book, Big Magic, by Elizabeth Gilbert for a very long time. Last week my mom surprised me by sending it to me in the mail in a care packaged filled with a new workout shirt and chocolate as well. Yeah, my mom is pretty amazing!

Anyways, so far the book is amazing and I really admire it from a copywriter’s point of view. Almost every line toils around in my head and unravels into something informative and beautiful at the same time. I highly suggest this book for a fun and inspiring read.

I hope to add these three things to my bedtime routine in order to end the day on a relaxing note in preparation for tomorrow.  If you try any of these ideas or find another great way to unwind at the end of the night drop a line below!
